Advanced Labyrinth Lord Character Record Sheet

On the heels of my Dungeons & Dagons™ character record sheet comes my attempt at a one-page Labyrinth Lord sheet. Illustrations for the page border come once again courtesy of Dave Carson. I have plans to expand this sheet to include a second page that will offer additional room for various things, but that is for the days to come. Enjoy!

Very nice! Are you planning on incorporating Sanity in some fashion? I'm preparing to start a "LL / Holmes edition hybrid" campaign and I'm looking for ideas...

@MD - I decided a while back that the best way to handle sanity and horror is by using what is already built into the game to begin with, which is spell effects and saving throws.

(See here: http://swordandsanity.blogspot.com/2010/01/spelling-out-horror-and-sanity-in.html)

I guess it dawned on me that there is no need to reinvent the wheel when the system is already in place. Most fantasy RPGs have spells like fear, confusion, insanity and feeblemind (I like the symbol spells for this kind of things as well - symbol of pain, fear, despair, hopelessness, etc.). Use them as spell-like effects and make the characters save accordingly.

I did not get a whole lot of feedback from that original post. What do you think of handling sanity and fear this way?

It never occurred to me to handle fear this way, but it does have a certain elegance. Do you have any system for inflicting permanent or semi-permanent mental disorders on characters (i.e. phobias, psychoses, etc.), or are you avoiding that type of complication?

@Sean - to evoke a more lasting insanity or fear just use a stronger spell-like effect. This is where the Symbol of Insanity spell really shines. To have its effects lifted from a character a Heal or Wish spell must be cast, which are rare and powerful spells. In my game alchemy is a big deal, so the players may find a powerful alchemist to brew a Heal Potion if a cleric that is able to cast Heal isn't available. I never realized just how many spells were ready made for exactly this purpose until all this dawn on me.

Oh man, I completely forgot about Symbol of Insanity - that's perfect!

I think I'll give this a spin; it's certainly less work than making up a fear and sanity mechanic.

Thanks for passing on the idea.

I'm trying to work out a system involving the spell effects you mentioned, as well as the effects suffered while encountering entities from "beyond."

I'm envisioning a Sanity score equal to Wisdom, that could decrease after failed saves. When certain threshholds are reached, manias of different levels/intensities could manifest.
This score could also be "healed", allowing for PCs to recover from temporary bouts of insanity (provided the "damage" isn't too severe).

Linking Sanity to Wisdom makes sense in my campaign. I don't equate good to Law or evil to Chaos. Instead, the "church" represents the lawful end of the axis, while magic anchors the chaotic extreme. Now the cleric acts as an "exorcist" in addition to his other roles. I can imagine the worried looks at the table when the party "healer" falls in combat or starts to gibber madly when confronted by a shambling horror of Y'th'ogg...
