I'm very tempted to pick this up. The preliminary play reports have all sounded like this game might be right up my alley. And also, yeah, that illustration alone makes me want to play.

Having played it, I can attest that the system does a pretty good job of encouraging the style of play described in the ad.

I'm not sold on the game, but the image is killer.

You should definitely play it - it's a way fun game! The unpredictable magic system is especially cool and makes the game feel dark and scary.

Goodman put a lot of thought and work into this game. It's too bad he couldn't come up with a more inspiring name for it.

I am not 100% sold either, but from reading the initial play reports I am intrigued. If only I could get in on a playtest... Is there an official way to sign up to organize local playtests for DCC?

It looks really cool. Also, they have a $99 dungeon/underdark campaign designed to take characters from 1st to 15th level or something. I was looking at it on the website the other day. Looks pretty cool.

I would just try emailing Joseph Goodman. He's a very nice, approachable guy.

DCC is definitely fun and I would never hesitate to play it. I guess the bigger question is whether or not I would start a new campaign with, with or switch over an existing campaign to, DCC. Probably not - I personally have a very high activation energy for switching systems. I like classic D&D just fine. Unlike a lot of gamers, I don't have gamer ADD.

I will own this. Hopefully will make up for the 'meh' taste that Hackmaster Basic left in my mouth.

@R.W. - $99.00? Damn, that better be a LOT of dungeon! :-)

@Cyclopeatron - I have been bitten by the ADD bug these past few weeks, but I believe the fever is about to break and I am getting back on the straight and narrow again. I will take a shot and email Goodman and see what happens.

@Greg - Hackmaster Basic left me flat as well. I had high hopes for that one. Now, I could really care less about HM Advanced...

It is a monster of a dungeon. I own it. :)

As for DCC RPG, the only thing that holds me back is the reported use of "odd dice"...like d5, d7, etc.

Didn't they just say the art direction was going to be based on the 60's fantasy novels they based the game around, and NOT old school D&D? Uh-huh...

I like this poster. I'm less enamoured of the game cover currently depicted on the goodman web-page.

But i'm a sucker for B&W.

I'm looking forward to playing in a demo @ Garycon this March.

DCC is going into "open beta" playtesting later this year, so I expect that Goodman is probably going to hold off on adding "official" playtesters until then. Still can't hurt to email him, though. Please let us know what happens, because I'd love to run it, too...

I think this is an excellent name

DUNGEON = dark and mysterious

CRAWL = stealth and adversity

CLASSIC = cool and valuable
i.e., classic cars, classic vinyl

ROLEPLAYING = acting
Almost everyone wants to be an actor or movie star,
Even better if you can be Conan, Flash Gordon, Captain Kirk or the Resident Evil protagonist.
