I have just moved to a new city, so maybe I will meet a group that is receptive to d100 games, and OQ will get much more of my attention.

Talk with you soon,

ShaneShane Mangushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03865733072718219138noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-383500061797506831.post-43099919658067729682010-04-30T01:31:19.822-04:002010-04-30T01:31:19.822-04:00"The problem is that there are too many great..."The problem is that there are too many great games on my shelf and not enough time to play them all."

Bah don't rub me off with that excuse, you should make time to play OQ and be rewarded with much fun :)

I've upped the Horror content in the latest edition of the Game, The Con-Quest edition, which now has a Horror and Terror Appendix with Major Mental Damage rules (a quick and easy Sanity varient written by a very experienced Cthulhu ref) and five example demons to scare and threaten your players with.

Also plans are affoot to take what I've written for OQ & The Savage North and expand into a new standalone game. Not going say too much yet because its a good year away, but its going to have Swords and Sandals with a dullop of horror at the heart of it :)

Finally in the more immeadiate future a well respected Historical gamer is taking a full proffessional project and converting it to OpenQuest. Again I can't say anything until he announces it, he's self publishing it, but Romans vs Celts vs repressed occult forces is the general theme of the game :)Newt Newporthttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14526248931436220381noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-383500061797506831.post-47029295839601812242010-04-28T05:12:37.156-04:002010-04-28T05:12:37.156-04:00LL is very much Moldvay and Mentzer, which are vir...LL is very much Moldvay and Mentzer, which are virtually the same. My conversions for LL on my blog work great, and I have worked up more recently for spells and items. Since you have requested it I will make sure it is at the top if my 'to do' list. I started out with the Holmes edition Basic Set then moved on to AD&D very quickly thereafter, so I missed the Moldvay edition, which I believe LL is based on.

I'd be very interested in giving Labyrinth Lord a try if I could find anyone else willing to play it. Most of my players started with 3E and are also big fans of 4E - there were howls of protest and a minor uprising that I had to quell when I switched to Castles and Crusades (the slower rate of leveling and loss of super-powers was a big problem for some).

I've also downloaded, but not read, both the core and whitebox editions of Swords and Wizardry (PDFs make my eyes bleed - if I settle on playing one of these retro-clones I'll have to buy a hard copy). I've noticed that among the old-school community that Labyrinth Lord is the more popular rule system. I'd love to hear your take on this if you get around to it.

I hope your move goes smoothly!

Cheers,
SeanSean Robsonhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16429301144221551751noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-383500061797506831.post-70985188237928945762010-04-27T00:03:06.042-04:002010-04-27T00:03:06.042-04:00Sean,

Even though I do not play a regular game of Savage Worlds the RoC book looks so damn sweet.

Also, have you checked out Labyrinth Lord? If not download the free version, as well as the Advanced Edition Companion. If you started with Basic/Expert D&D and then graduated to Advanced later then you will feel right at home. Oh yeah, join the Labyrinth Lord Society as well. Have I converted you yet? :-)

The one thing I will miss from Castles & Crusades is the way it handles the Ranger, Paladin and Bard (no spell casting abilities). Before it is over with I will convert those classes over to LL and post them here.

Talk to you soon...Shane Mangushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03865733072718219138noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-383500061797506831.post-55387896641028311852010-04-26T23:26:10.257-04:002010-04-26T23:26:10.257-04:00Oddly, even though Castles & Crusades is my cu...Oddly, even though Castles & Crusades is my current system of choice, I voted for Savage Worlds, which I own but have never played. Savage Worlds seems like a great fit for a Sword & Sanity campaign, and I wonder if a lot of people aren't aware of the Realms of Cthulhu setting. I'd never heard of it myself, but now I must have it!

Thanks for the heads-up.Sean Robsonhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16429301144221551751noreply@blogger.com
